A Campaign to Heal Growing Minds for DePelchin Children’s Center.

Heal Young Minds was one of the most meaningful campaigns I’ve had the privilege to lead. Created for DePelchin Children’s Center, it aimed to make childhood mental health visible—an “invisible illness” too often ignored. With 1 in 5 kids struggling, our goal was clear: raise awareness, erase stigma, and spark conversation.

Inspired by cultural disruptors like the Livestrong bracelet, we created our own symbol: a band-aid on the forehead. Visibly simple, quietly powerful—it started conversations everywhere. We launched a microsite, coordinated a citywide initiative, and got May 16th proclaimed as Children’s Mental Health Houston Day. Houstonia Magazine gave us their first-ever barn door cover, and CultureMap allowed us their first-ever full digital takeover, complete with band-aid over their logo. Requests for band-aids flooded in—from individuals, organizations, and even Starbucks around town got involved.

We ran out of band-aids before the day arrived. But the impact was undeniable. Real stories poured in, and a community conversation had finally begun.

Work included:
• Research & Discovery
• Strategy, Brand Thematic & Messaging
• Campaign Design & Visual Identity
• Band-Aid Production
• Media Plan & Placement
• Microsite Design & Development
• Social Media Content & Seeding
• Grassroots Distribution
• Environmental Graphics / Signage
• Custom Art Van for Houston Orange Show

CLEARLY THE CAMPAIGN MADE AN IMPACT. TESTIMONIALS VIA THE MICROSITE:

“This is GREAT!!! I cant think of a better way to show my support for my son than this. I want to try and get the school involved as well!”

“I have a son who is 11 and we are working through some issues. I want to help promote this because this part of kids health shouldn't be left out. The physical should be just as important as the mental.”

“As a parent of a teen with depression and anxiety I appreciate all you do and this awareness campaign. I wish to share with coworkers and her school.”

“I am a special ed teacher and have a brother who is ADHD and bipolar. We as a family support what you do!!”

“I just lost my daughter to bipolar depression.”

“It is a great idea! to bring awareness to our community! We are a FQHC Clinic with an integrated children's behavioral health department.”

“I would like to join you in your endeavor of getting help for children with problems. I myself suffer from Bipolar I and anxiety, panic attacks, and a severe case of PTSD so I truely understand how children need help when they are young, I never did get any help when I was younger.”

“Please let me know how I can get the bandaids to advocate for kids like my teen nephew. I have a nephew who is abandoned by parents and temporarily living with me until we can figure something out.”

“I can't wait for my family and I to show support and hopefully help educate some others on the topic if mental health concerning children! My daughter is going to be so excited to help raise awareness!”

“"I am an adult now but was diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 8 this is a cause I believe in.”

“I suffer from mental disorders and know a lot of others who do also. It is important that we help them. This can be a silent disease and if no ones about it then people can not get the help they need.”

“I was just informed today that my niece was diagnose with a mental health disorder, Please send me some band-aids to wear on Friday to show my support.”

“I’d love to share the information and band aids with co-workers and friends. More people need to be aware that they can help children in some of the smallest ways.”

“I wear mine to support my nephew who has autism spectrum.”
